Marshall's-HomeGoods prototype opens in New Rochelle

The Palmer Square Shopping Center, at the corner of Palmer Avenue and Petersville Road in New Rochelle, has two new tenants and a third on the way.

The Marshall’s-HomeGoods joint store, which offers its customers discounted apparel and home fashions, opened on Sept. 21. The 62,148-square-foot space is composed of the two retails that are connected to one another by a pass-through so customers can shop in both at the same time.

The combo store has two separate entrances and two well-defined shopping atmospheres, but has one customer-service desk and checkout area. Marshall’s and HomeGoods are looking to hire 120 people for full and part-time positions.

The idea for a combined retail center was focused on customer convenience, said Alex Smith, senior executive vice president and group president for The TJX Companies Inc., the parent store of both Marshall’s and HomeGoods.

“We know that our customers are time pressed and looking for shopping destinations that meet multiple needs,” Smith said in a statement. “By providing easy access between our two stores, we are able to offer our customers a truly one-stop shopping experience for all their apparel and home fashion needs, along with the great values for which both Marshall’s and HomeGoods are known.”

Annie Sez, a national women’s clothing store, has signed a lease with Rosenshein Associates, the developer of Palmer Square, to open up within the shopping center, said Bernard Rosenshein, president.

“New Rochelle needed new retail opportunities. Since Bloomingdale’s left over 30 years ago, there has been no national fashion retailer of size coming to the city,” Rosenshein said in a statement. “New Rochelle was underserved. Marshall’s, HomeGoods and Annie Sez will contribute significantly to the area’s surging economy and retail base, and will be a great shot in the arm in the city’s ongoing attempts to attract more retailers.”
