Ossining needs imaginative solutions
By
ALEX PHILIPPIDIS :: February 9, 2007
(Thanks
to online reader Will Fay (iguassu7@hotmail.com)
for his TalkBack response to a Business Journal report
this past week on Ossining’s
budding revitalization effort.)
Why not look for imaginative solutions which could put
Ossining on the ‘not-to-be-missed’ list. For
example, instead of a shuttle from the waterfront development,
a funicular or aerial tramway – or like Salvador
in Brazil, an elevator from the Ciudad Baixo (lower city)
to the Ciudad Alto. Or find some way to make the climb
a fitness opportunity. Ossining’s unique topography
also should be exploited and made more of as a feature.
Likewise, views of the river need to be taken advantage
of. There need to be River overlooks from downtown...
The
waterfront development cited by Fay is Harbor Square,
the $78 million, 150-condo project to be built by Louis
R. Cappelli and Martin Ginsburg.
