There’s more to the history of Minskoff Grant

Re:
“Wachtell Lipton, Colliers ABR confirm 54,000 sq.
ft. lease at 55 Church St.:
Disaster
recovery space for law firm” (D&D,
Jan. 14):
The
article is quoted as saying “Founded in 1908, Minskoff
Grant is the successor entity to the Minskoff Organization,
founded by Samuel Minskoff. Minskoff Grant owns and manages
1 million square feet of office and retail space within
17 properties in Westchester, Manhattan, Queens, and even
downtown Detroit.”
In fact, Minskoff Grant is owned by a daughter and son-in-law
of one of the principals of the Sam Minskoff and Sons,
Inc. (also known as the Minskoff Organization) and was
incorporated near to when Sam Minskoff and Sons closed;
but to my knowledge its first management contract
wasn't until 1996, well after Sam Minskoff shut its
doors and ceased operations.
Other members of the family have begun their own firms
separately, and no one firm is the "successor"
to Sam Minskoff, since all properties were devolved to
their family partners and the development, construction,
and management businesses of Sam Minskoff were shut down.
Further, the article states that Minskoff Grant owns and
manages 1 million SF of office and retail "in...even
downtown Detroit". This is untrue. Individuals in
several branches of the Minskoff family own all of the
properties referred to: Minskoff Grant as an entity owns
none. Its principals own portions, often minor, of many
of the properties, but in Detroit in particular, their
interest is small and they have no management role.

replies: The Colliers ABR press release announcing
the Wachtell Lipton deal includes a history of Minskoff
Grant that reads: “Founded in 1908, Minskoff Grant
Realty & Management Corp. is the successor entity
to the Minskoff Organization, founded by Samuel Minskoff.
Minskoff Grant owns and manages 17properties consisting
of one million square feet of office and retail properties
located in Manhattan, Queens, Westchester County and Downtown
Detroit, Michigan.”
